SHOW #131 2015 Volvo Ocean Race

Seven teams. The world's toughest Oceans and 38,000 gruelling miles of close-quarter, flat-out offshore racing. For over forty years, the Volvo Ocean Race has been the most prestigious of the world's offshore sailing races, but this edition is set to be the closest ever. With new, state of the art, one design offshore racing yachts, this edition's Volvo fleet are racing around the planet in close-quarter formation. Three different boats have won the first three legs, and as the fleet approach New Zealand for the end of Leg 4, it's lining up to be the closest finish yet. This arrival into Auckland marks the midway point of this race, and CNN MainSail's Shirley Robertson will be there to greet the skippers and crews as they finish another brutal twenty days of flat-out off-shore sailing, to find out just what it is about this edition that's making the racing so very tight. And we'll be previewing the next leg, Leg 5. It's the longest of the race, and it sees the Volvo Ocean Race fleet sail deep into the Southern Ocean, braving relentless swells and freezing conditions, all in a bid to be first around the infamous Cape Horn, before the sprint up the coast of South America to Itajai, Brazil. It's a fearsome prospect - and it's a leg that could well see the Volvo Ocean Race won, or lost.
